Bedford Towers, designated for the elderly and/or disabled/handicapped individuals/families, is a seven story high rise complex located at 231 Middle Street in New Bedford (between County and Summer Street). It contains 117 apartments, consisting of 83 one-bedrooms and 34 two-bedrooms. Eight one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom apartments are barrier-free with easy access for the mobility impaired. The complex is composed of seven story high rise that is located between County & Summer Street, yet only minutes from Routes 18, 140 & 195. All apartments are fully applianced and offer air conditioning, emergency call system, cable TV hookups, wall to wall carpeting. The Management Office is located on-site and we offer 24-hour emergency maintenance service
Bedford Townhouses, designated as family apartments, consist of 7 buildings centrally located off Kempton Street between Cedar Street & Cottage Street. It contains a total of 40 apartments - 18 two-bedroom and 22 three-bedroom apartments where two of the three-bedroom apartments are barrier-free with easy access for the mobility impaired. These apartments are also fully applianced and offer air conditioning, wall to wall carpeting, cable TV hookups, laundry hook up in apartments, rear entrance with patio area.
Bedford Towers/Townhouses is funded through project based Section 8. Project based Section 8 guidelines, priorities and preferences are in effect. Eligibility is restricted to elderly, handicap/disabled individuals & families who fall within the income guidelines.

$37,600 | Rent: Based on the project based Section 8, residents pay the greater of 30% of their adjusted income and a security deposit equal to one month's rent is required. Utilities are included in your rent.
Priorities/Preferences that may affect status on our waiting list include an individual or family who is: 1.) homeless due to displacement by natural forces; 2.) homeless due to displacement by public action (urban renewal); 3.) homeless due to displacement by public action (sanitary code violation); and 4.) involuntarily displaced by domestic violence.
Our Resident Selection Plan requires that our office thoroughly screen all applicants to determine suitability for residency. This includes a review of the following past behaviors:
- ability and willingness to pay the rent;
- ability and willingness to comply with the lease;
- ability and willingness to care for or provide for care of the unit;
- ability and willingness to cooperate with the staff.
Accordingly, our office will perform the screening listed below:
- landlord check
- credit references
- criminal check
- income and asset verification
